Ryan Battles Oak Wilt

Arborist and Co-Owner Ryan Altaweel was invited to help the Wisconsin DNR prune Oaks in July at the request of the US Forest Service.

Typically, pruning Oaks during the growing season is prohibited because doing so can expose Oaks to Oak Wilt, a fungal disease that is spread by insects that are attracted to fresh cuts. Once the fungal spores are present in an Oak, the disease spreads to adjacent Oaks through interconnected root systems.

The study is being carried out over multiple years in Wisconsin and Michigan to determine the effectiveness of a new procedure that may limit the spread of Oak Wilt.

We are excited that one of our own Arborists is involved in such an interesting project!

If you have an Oak tree that that needs pruning or dead wood trimmed, consider contacting Tree House Arbor Science. We’re booking now for Oak pruning this fall and winter.
